Castle of Etangsannes
Creuse, France
A strong place is mentioned in 1201 at the border ("marche") of the possessions of the Bourbons.
This place had a plan similar to the image on the right.
The ceilings are painted by Italian painters in the second half of the sixteenth century.
The Marche mansion was built during the 15th century.
You can see on the left the typical plan of a Marche mansion : a tower staircase flanked on each side of a large room leading to a corner tower.
The Commons are added in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
